PCEC Welcomes a New Semester with Members in a Interactive Philosophical Conversation (1/25)

This week’s meeting was structured a bit differently from previous weeks. We focused more on the philosophy side of the club instead of our usual current events discussions, and we heard many remarkable responses from everyone. Here’s a link to the January meeting presentation with all the discussed questions.

Is Free Will Real or Just an Illusion?

Some reasoned that everyone has free will, however people can be influenced by their environment or all people’ free will is limited by their given circumstances.

What Harsh Truths Do You and Or Society Prefer to Ignore?

For the question of Harsh Truths, we mentioned that we don’t think about how much waste we are putting into the environment, we often ignore what occurs on the news, and we forget to acknowledge people’s emotional well being if we are too distracted in our own personal worlds.

Does Nature or Nurture Form a Person’s Personality?

Our Nature vs Nurture discussion was quite profound. Some people reasoned that we are similar to our parents, but have our own unique qualities and our environment plays a role in developing our personalities, however, the decisions we make play a role in creating our personality.

If You Could Become Immortal, Would You?

For our immortal topic, we all had similar aspects as to what it would be like if we were immortal. We agreed that it would be sad to see our friends and family pass away, and what would happen if the world came to an end.

What Should Be the Goal of Humanity?

Lastly, one of our more sentimental discussions of “what should be the goal of humanity” ended on the same note. We believed there should be peace and goodness with one another, and people have the right to be who they are as an individual.

We hope to see everyone at our next meeting, which is on the books for February 22nd at 12:00. The time of the meeting is subject to change, but the google meet code and date should remain the same!! Feel free to contact the leaders with questions!!
